Getting started with Ubuntu

One of the hardest things people have with Ubuntu is understanding just how to get started with it. The good news is that Ubuntu already makes this super easy! One of the first steps towards adopting this as your new operating system is to learn about it. Ubuntu is a linux operating system that is based on Debian another linux operating system. According to Wikipedia, Linux (commonly pronounced /ˈlɪnəks/[5]) is a generic term referring to Unix-like computer operating systems based on the Linux kernel. Their development is one of the most prominent examples of free and open source software collaboration; typically all the underlying source code can be used, freely modified, and redistributed by anyone under the terms of the GNU GPL[6] and other free software licences. The next step is to download the ubuntu iso from www.ubuntu.com and then to create a LiveCD, a bootable CD/DVD that you can use to try linux out if you are curious or install onto your computer if your ready to make the switch. Creating a LiveCD is generally quite easy. All you need is a program like Imgburn or Nero and burn the iso image of Ubuntu onto the disk. Then you restart your computer, be sure that your BIOS is set to boot from your startup disk and your ready to go. You can access your BIOS by pressing F2 or ESC when your computer is warming up. Next you should see a menu giving you the option to boot ubuntu or install it on your computer. Just make a selection and follow the instructions and your ready to begin enjoying Ubuntu!
